Biography
Kevin Davidson
For his art training, Kevin attended Burnley School of Professional Art in Seattle for a year and then was accepted to Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, graduating in 1973 with honors as an illustration major. He has been a freelance illustrator for four decades now, working with designers and local ad agencies as well as national publishers. In the last decade, Kevin recognized the Golden Age of Illustration was drawing to a close, with the advent of computers and photoshop, with major changes in print media, so he began a transition to fine art, specifically watercolor. After joining a watercolor class, Kevin discovered painting watercolor on the polypropylene plastic Yupo. Around the year 2005 Kevin joined the Southern California Plein Air Painters Association (Socalpapa). The term “plein air” loosely translates from the French for any painting done on location or outdoors, as opposed to painting in the studio.
Kevin states, “Yupo and plein air painting are a perfect match for my style of painting. The ability to completely lift off the watercolor paint allows for great flexibility in execution on site, and when I get back to the studio, I can take my time for any cleanup needed, with little fear of overworking.”
Past president of Socalpapa, and member of the Orange and San Clemente Art Associations.
Galleries: Mission Fine Art Gallery in San Juan Capistrano, as well as the Crystal Cove Store.
