Artists at the Marsh Plein Air Paint-off
Sponsored by Sea and Sage Audubon Society, San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary Board, and Southern California Plein Air Painters Association.
This family event provides the opportunity for an impressive experience as you watch many artists capture the beauty of the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary.
Schedule of Activities
8:00am Audubon House will open.
8:00am Artists Check-in for the Paint off event.
9:00am SAS Welcome Table OpensMaps of SWJS provided; taxidermy display; sign-ups for the two artist directed classes; instructions for Scavenger Hunt.
9:00-11:30am Plein Air Paint Off 30+ artists will be set up throughout the Marsh. Visitors can view their paintings in progress.
9:30-11:30 Scavenger Hunt for prizes.
9:30am-3:30 Children’s Book Walk in the meadow (self-guided)
10:00-2:00pm Craft Tables in the Butterfly Garden picnic table area, offering a variety of crafts to all ages.
10:30-11:30 Bird Walk in the Marsh
11:30 Paint-off Ends Artists bring their paintings to the Learning Center for framing and adjudication. Lunch provided to artists and volunteers.
12-1:00pm Children’s Art Class at the BBQ picnic tables. (taught by participating artists). Sign up at the SAS Welcome Table
12-2:00 pm Still Life Drawing Demonstration at the SAS Welcome Table
1-2:00pm Adult Plein Air Lesson in the meadow (taught by participating artists). $20 fee. Sign up at the SAS Welcome Table-limit 20 people.
1:30 pm Adjudication of the paintings (closed event).
1:30-3:00pm Plein Air Paintings Displayed for purchase (in the Learning Center).
1:30 Awards Presentation ($1000 in prizes awarded).
3:30pm Event ends
Note*Tables with umbrellas for shade will be set up in the meadow if you would like to bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it.
