Thank you for your interest in the Cambria trip. You may want to print this out.

Paint Days are March 30 - April 3

**** There are some new additions for this year’s trip ****

There is no charge for participating in this event. Everyone is welcome to attend. Travel, food, and lodging is on your own. You are traveling and participating at your own risk. There are no lectures, workshops, critiques, pressure, or bad locations. Its just five full days of total immersion into plein air painting along California’s beautiful central coast.

There are no plans to visit the lighthouse this year.

I will be driving up on Sunday, March 29th. and returning to L.A. on Saturday April 4th.  The drive is about 250 miles and takes about 5 hours. If you want to come up earlier and stay later that is up to you. Buy gas in SLO (San Luis Obispo) it will be a lot cheaper.

Transportation, Food, Lodging, Welfare, and Safety is the responsibility of each individual.

You are participating at your own risk. Car-pooling and sharing rooms with a friend works well. If you have not already done so, I would recommend googling “Where to stay in Cambria” to find accommodations. There are plenty of them and all are good. I stay at the Cambria Pines Lodge because it has a buffet breakfast and a good restaurant for dinner. Moonstone Beach is another popular place and downtown has a lot to choose from. Some people also camp at the San Simeon State Campground. RV Parks are also in the area. I would make reservations early, and make them directly through the place you want to stay. You can always cancel later if you change your mind. Cayucos is close by for places to stay and eat as well. You have plenty of time. Shop around but plan ahead.

Weather can be anything from GREAT to cold, windy, rainy, and foggy.  ItsPlein Air.

All Restaurants are great and there are plenty to choose from. There are no franchise businesses in Cambria or Cayucos except the gas station.

Remember to “pack light”  You don't want to burden yourself with a lot of stuff to carry.  All locations are only suggestions. If you just want to explore on your own or if you already have your locations in mind, that’s great.  You don’t have to stay with the group. The best places are the ones you find on your own.

ON THE LAST DAY  >>> Plan to meet at PARR/Stolo Winery to display all the work you have done, and take the group photo.

Don't feel that you are alone. There is always someone who wants a paint buddy. Use it as a week to relax and just paint and enjoy the beautiful California coast. We may be joined by the local painting groups from Cambria and Morro Bay.

MONDAY,  March 30

Best times to paint are in the morning. It can get quite windy later in the day.

9:30 am

Meet at Leffingwell Landing Park at the north end of Moonstone Beach to go over painting locations and other activities for people new to the area. We will be painting there in the morning. Moonstone Beach is a mile long and has a great boardwalk to walk on and watch the sunsets.

The parking area north of Leffingwell Park has a great view of the beach and views north. Restrooms are on either end of the boardwalk. We also may be joined by the local plein air painters from The Cambria Art Center Asso. on one or more days.

(There are some great old barns up San Simeon Creek Rd. north of Leffingwell Park, just beyond the campground and is sheltered from the wind)
