OVERVIEW
SOCALPAPA and Hortense Miller Garden are presenting a show and sale opportunity for artists this fall. This is a non-juried show and will consist of a maximum number of 20 artworks by SOCALPAPA artists. Paintings must be of the Hortense Miller Garden property, or a view from the property, captured during visiting hours. Paintings can either be plein air or studio paintings. All works will be displayed in the Hortense Miller Aviary Gallery, inside the historic Mid-Century Modern home built by the Millers in the 1950s. This is a non-juried show for SOCALPAPA members only. All paintings must be for sale, and all sales must be handled by the artist directly with the client.

Artists may register at SOCALPAPA.com under Shows, Hortense Miller. You must be logged as a Member to register. Each submitting artist is guaranteed to have at least one work selected for the show… with the EXCEPTION that once the full number of 20 pieces is reached, submissions will end. Registration requires finished images, please do not register until you have finished paintings. A photo of the painting must be emailed to socalpapagallery@gmail.com to complete the registration. If the full number of 20 is not reached by the deadline on September 9th, then those artists who submitted a second painting will be notified in the order of submission.
20 paintings will be accepted and displayed within the Aviary Gallery space - per the Eligibility Guidelines below. Each artist may submit up to 2 works but the second work may or may not be accepted by the show committee, depending upon space.

PICK-UP >> SAT, NOVEMBER 15th 9am-11 am: Artwork is to be picked up by artists at Hortense Miller Garden (pick-up information will be provided to artists).
Paint Out Opportunities were scheduled throughout the year with a couple of dates remaining in August.
August 14 and August 30 are remaining painting dates.
To REGISTER for the dates above, contact Diane.Lannon@gmail.com on the Monday of the week you wish to go and paint. Once registered, you will meet on your painting day at 9am SHARP at Riddle Field to be escorted up to the HM Miller parking area; you will be able to paint until 12 Noon that day.
Eligibility
- The show is open only to SOCALPAPA members. Join SOCALPAPA here https://www.socalpapa.com
- Required subject is the Hortense Miller Garden property. Only paintings of the property, or views from the property, will be displayed in the show. No exceptions.
- Plein air “style” paintings AND studio works are both permitted. Paintings may be either plein air or from photos of the Garden (photos must be by the artist, not from the internet or other sources).
- Paintings must be the artist’s own work, and not done in a workshop or under the instruction or supervision of another.
- Paintings may be oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, or mixed media
- Paintings must be not have been shown at Hortense Miller in past shows.
- All artwork must be available for purchase with a minimum price of $275.
- Maximum artwork size (not including the frame) is 24 inches on the longest side.
- Minimum artwork size (not including frame) is 6 inches on the shortest side
Entry Fees: $10 for one or two paintings
Framing and Display:
- Paintings must be either framed OR “gallery wrapped” (meaning sides are 1.5 inches deep and finished/painted for clean display).
- Paintings MUST be dry to the touch as transport and hanging of wet media is not available.
- All paintings MUST be ready to hang. Hardware should consist of D-rings and wire, or wire that is otherwise attached in a professional manner. No exceptions.
DELIVERY of Paintings:
- Paintings must be delivered on the dates above under “Show Schedule.” Works are delivered at Riddle Field, 600 Hillcrest Dr, Laguna Beach. This is a parking area where staff will be accepting paintings which will then be taken to the HM Garden gallery.
- Paintings will be inspected upon delivery to make certain they meet the show criteria.
Sales
- Sales will be handled by the artists since the non-profit HM Garden cannot accept sale payments.
- Paintings must be marked on the back with artist name, title, size, price and contact information.
- Artists may provide additional business cards or rack cards to be displayed at the show.
- Artists will be able to make appointments to invite a limited number of guests to the gardens on THURSDAY or SATURDAY mornings during the show dates.
- Artists are responsible for arranging the delivery or shipping of sold work to their buyer at the close of the show.
- Sold works MUST REMAIN at the HM Garden Show until the end of each show on November 15th. Only artists. will be allowed to pickup artwork.
Disclosure
Insurance is the responsibility of the artist. Neither SOCALPAPA or HM Garden will assume liability for loss, theft, or damage during all phases of this event. Artists participating in the Show agree to allow SOCALPAPA and HM Garden reproduction privileges of the artist’s art for purposes of publicity.
